I am not into any paid services; but with the little tracking I have seen on Wunderdog, they seem to be very good in Hockey and they hardly ever have a "high" ML favorite.

cujo, i follow lots of guys for hoops and football, but hockey is usually alot tougher to find guys to follow. one of the guys i follow for the aforementioned is the sportsboss, and he releases all his nhl plays for free on his website, and he is ranked numbr 1 at his monitor and doesnt play any favorites above 150. i would just say find guys that are monitored, and as you said dont take big favorites.

fantasy sports gametime is pretty good in Hockey.

I get their plays in NHL everyday. I can share these with you and I usually post them as well.
